Barcelona, Spain (Merxwire) - The 2022 European Association for International Education (EAIE) conference was held in Barcelona, Spain from September 13 to 16. The Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education Taiwan (FICHET) attended with representatives from multiple Taiwan universities to raise global awareness of education opportunities available in Taiwan.
Established in 1989, EAIE is Europe's largest annual international education event, bringing together more than 6,000 higher education professionals from more than 90 countries in Europe, the United States, Asia and Africa to share experiences, discuss key educational issues, and promote transnational inter-school cooperation. The Taiwan delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Education Mon-Chi Lio, and included 53 representatives from 23 Taiwan colleges and universities, working together to market higher education in Taiwan, and to promote a broad range of international collaboration.
At the conference, Taiwan Pavilion raised awareness of higher education opportunities in Taiwan, and to further promote the "Study in Taiwan" brand. Exhibitors from various schools communicated Taiwan's high-quality higher education and the advantageous academic and research fields of each school to the representatives of various countries participating in the exhibition through booths and lectures. During the exhibition, there was an endless stream of foreign guests visiting the Taiwan Pavilion to discuss cooperation.
FICHET also hosted a "Taiwan Night" Reception at Skyfall Barcelona club on the evening of the 14th, featuring distinctive Taiwanese beverages, giving all attendees a taste of Taiwan's culture. The event was attended by nearly 90 representatives from universities and colleges. On the morning of the 15th, the first "Taiwanese and Spanish Higher Education Institutions' Dialogue and Networking" was jointly held with the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE) at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya. Representatives from nearly 50 schools attended the meeting, with an opening address delivered by Director Yen-Yi Lee of the MOE's Department of International and Cross-Strait Education, speaking on behalf of FICHET Chairperson Huey-Jen Su, CEO Hui-Kuang Yu provided an overview of higher education in Taiwan, along with potential avenues of international cooperation. During the meeting, schools from Taiwan were paired with foreign counterparts for one-on-one talks with a view to expanding bilateral academic research cooperation.
FICHET emphasized Taiwan's deep resources for higher education. These resources, combined with Taiwan's high-quality cultural soft power, forward-looking international strategy, and friendly and free humanistic environment, has been central to building the Study in Taiwan brand, successfully raising awareness of study opportunities in Taiwan at annual education conferences in the America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. Global trends towards learning Chinese as a foreign language dovetail closely with FICHET's ongoing strategy to promote Taiwan's higher education capabilities to the world, and deepen cooperation with global academic partners.
